Pfilates Squeezes Out Kegels
A new program of pelvic floor fitness training exists that may greatly improve outcomes. Dr. Bruce Crawford of the Center for Pelvic Floor Medicine, has created a program of 10 movements that induce a major pelvic floor workout. Dr. Crawford’s program, called Pfilates (pelvic floor Pilates) can be done by anyone and without the need for any specialized exercise equipment. T achieve the best results these movements are best taught by a certified Pfilates Instructor
Pfilates certification has been available since 2009. Presently there are more than 20 certified instructors in the Reno/Sparks/Carson City area.
Pfilates certification is a one day course led by Dr. Bruce Crawford. This intensive pelvic floor workshop focuses on the neuroscience of pelvic floor function. Participants also learn how to teach the 10 Pfilates movements, with modifications to individuals and groups.
The Pfilates Method is the only scientifically derived plyometric pelvic floor conditioning program. Using the principals of plyometric training Pfilates improves pelvic floor performance and consequently symptoms of urinary incontinence, and fecal incontinence. Reduction of OAB symptoms alone reduces the risk of falls, however, because Pfilates involves core stabilization this benefit may exceed the degree of risk reduction reported in the literature
